GENBAND All In on WebRTCBy Rich Tehrani, Group Editor-in-Chief, TMC “Human contextual interaction is what WebRTC is all about,” Brad Bush (News - Alert), chief marketing officer of GENBAND said at the company’s Perspectives14 event happening in Orlando. HTML5 with WebRTC business models are in their infancy and there are over a billion WebRTC-enabled endpoints, he explained. While the data channel is a major factor – allowing tremendous things to be done, there are downsides too. Signaling may be another challenge to face, but Bush said he believes this will also be worked out. GENBAND (News - Alert) is bridging the Telco and Web world through a WebRTC gateway which handles NAT, security and other things a carrier needs to deploy a solution. The company also has a WebRTC client which is a mirror image of what you can use on a tablet - such as the ability to escalate a conference call to a video call. The benefit to a carrier is being able to provide solutions that are used by a larger range of devices. Moreover, the training you do once, doesn’t have to be repeated and there is no need to have browser plug-ins which means less security issues and hassles with IT departments who lock down devices.
