Apparent Networks Research Discovers Reasons for Delay in Application DeploymentsBy Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor New research by Apparent Networks finds that companies could be delaying IT projects because of concerns over network performance. The survey was conducted from the end of May until early June and targeted various network managers.
According to the survey, more than one-third of network managers have delayed application deployments because of network performance concerns. Nearly 61 percent said that they had delayed a VoIP implementation due to network performance concerns. While 26 percent put a unified communications project on hold, some 35 percent postponed a video rollout for the above mentioned reasons.
In the survey, network performance was connected to the adoption of applications that involve next-generation data center technologies. It included VoIP, unified communications and video delivery applications.
“There is little doubt that network managers are tired of having the finger pointed at them, when the problem is outside of their control,” said Jim Melvin, president and chief marketing officer at Apparent Networks (News - Alert). “Network managers are completely on board with next-generation data center technologies, but they are not confident enough in the third-party network performance necessary to make these technologies meet their performance requirements.”
The survey also claimed that 26 percent of respondents do not have the capability to validate service level agreements. Also, only 42 percent said they “regularly validate” those agreements. 73 percent of the surveyed professionals felt that VoIP was the application that strained their networks the most.
As the complexity of the IT environment increases, making infrastructure changes or rolling out new applications can be a herculean task. In such a scenario, the report from Apparent Networks helps the network professionals become “network heroes,” claims the company.
In June last year, the company released Version 3.5 of its flagship AppCritical solution. The new release includes features that are designed to help enterprises to better manage network performance and application delivery in large and converged environments. This latest release also includes a new suite of enterprise-ready reporting and dashboard capabilities.
