Enhanced Data Center Efficiency Offerings by Degree Controls
By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributing Editor
AdaptivCool Room Scale Intelligent Cooling (RSIC) is a full service thermal management solution and is the latest offering from Degree Controls (DegreeC).
AdaptivCool reduces data center energy consumption and cooling costs.
After entering the market in 2006, AdaptivCool has now come out with a next-generation version called AdaptivCool Room Scale Intelligent Cooling (RSIC).
After two years of intensive research and development enhancements that help customers reduce energy consumption and increase computing load without the deployment of additional cooling capacity have been announced.
AdaptivCool RSIC uses a Cooling Resource Manager to calculate the precise cooling demand and control floor- and ceiling-mounted air movers which control data center airflow. All relevant information is sent via temperature sensors to the resource manager. Over-cooling is reduced by directing cool air to the equipment that needs it and returning the hot air to the air conditioning unit. A thirty percent drop is noticed in the electrical consumption as a result.
AdaptivCool RSIC has also come up with additional services which include Real Time Thermal Monitoring and Configuration User Interface that enable the user to securely monitor statistics such as hardware status, individual sensor readings and thermal history and trends; AdaptivCool Rapid Response Alarms which send out alerts if prompt action is needed.
Coy Stine, AdaptivCool's Engineering Manager said, “Our research over the last two years shows that today's data center and IT managers face a growing number of challenges -- not the least of which is raising energy costs. They are looking for cost-effective solutions to ensure that their data center is running as efficiently as possible, and in many cases looking to add additional computing loads.”
