Sonus Networks' Solution Enhances Facilities of Existing Home Line Service

Sonus Networks (News - Alert), Inc. is a pioneer in the provision of next generation IP-based network solutions. Its main purpose is to enhance the facilities of their current home line services.

By leveraging "Fixed – Smartphone Convergence (News - Alert)," cable operators now get the facilities to use latest capabilities in the Sonus Networks ASX Telephony Application Server. This enables cable subscribers with home phone service to merge their current phone line with a maximum of five additional SIP-enabled devices consisting of 3G/Wi-Fi enabled smartphones.

A CableLabs (News - Alert) Summer Conference 2010 is scheduled from August 15-18 at the Keystone Resort and Conference Center, Keystone, Colo. Sonus is planning to exhibit the latest solution at the conference.

In a release, Greg Zweig who is the director of access product management at Sonus Networks, said that, "Cable operators are looking for ways to add more value for fixed line customers, and also get more involved in offering mobile services. With Fixed – Smartphone Convergence powered by the ASX Telephony Application Server, we are giving cable operators a way to make a subscriber's home number more valuable and more convenient to access, anywhere in the world. The solution gives MSOs a compelling new offering that leverages the explosion in smart mobile phones and tablet computers."

The Sonus Fixed – Smartphone Convergence solution enables subscribers to receive or make calls with their home telephone line (using NCS or SIP call control) and almost any SIP-enabled device connected to the Internet. The solution makes it possible to ring all of the devices at the same time and to make and receive several calls concurrently. It also provides option to transfer calls to other users. This solution is best option for families with multiple smart devices and mobile lifestyles. 

At the CableLabs Summer Conference 2010, the participants can watch how Sonus' Fixed – Smartphone Convergence solution functions. When live calls come to the booth's landline phone, it will ring simultaneously on several devices such as a PC softphone and a SIP-enabled smartphone. Visitors can easily answer and transfer among the devices, even when other users make outbound calls on one or more devices.
