NeuStar Successfully Tests SIP-IX VoIP Interconnection Exchange Service

By Divya Narain, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Clearinghouse and directory services provider, NeuStar (News - Alert), has successfully completed the trial of its SIP-IX VoIP Interconnection Exchange service. The pilot was carried out with four competitive local exchange providers, all members of Comptel, an industry association of competitive communications service providers, and their supplier partners.

"We're glad to have been working with NeuStar during this trial," said Jerry James (News - Alert), CEO of Comptel. "Our members that participated in the trial have told us that NeuStar's VoIP Interconnection Exchange service performed exactly as NeuStar promised it would. We look forward to the next phase of this project."

An increasing number of players in the industry are switching to IP-based networks in order to cut costs and boost revenues by offering next-generation services. SIP-IX offers a scalable and affordable solution that connects services providers and in turn facilitates the transition to IP-based networks.

During the trial, Neustar carried out extensive testing of provisioning of telephone numbers and policy management. Through this policy control, customized route instructions are achieved that optimize cost, quality and service capability and give rise to new business models and relationships.

NeuStar's Senior Director of Product Management, who conducted the SIP-IX Interconnection Exchange service trial with the COMPTEL (News - Alert) members, will present at the Comptel Plus Fall 2008 Convention & Expo to be held from October 5-8 at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Florida.

"We appreciate the opportunity to work with COMPTEL and provide innovative solutions to enable ubiquitous VoIP interconnection," said Michael Misheff, NeuStar's vice president of converged addressing. "We are pleased with the results of this trial and we look forward to working with the industry to accelerate the migration to IP networks."
