Broadcore Named Finalist for Canyons School District Hosted VoIP Services

By Mandira Srivastava, TMCnet Contributor

(TMC recently published a statement erroneously indicating that Broadcore (News - Alert) had been awarded an e-rate RFP from Canyons School District. In fact, Broadcore is only a finalist with other hosted providers. We regret any inconvenience this statement may have caused.)

Hosted VoIP
represents a significant growth area in the communications industry over the past several years, including widespread adoption in the education sector. Broadcore, a national provider of an all-in-one business communications service with comprehensive client support, has been selected as a finalist in the search for a district-wide provider of hosted VoIP services to the Canyons School District in Sandy, Utah.

The E-Rate program is administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC (News - Alert)), and is intended to assist schools and libraries in the United States to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access. Broadcore delivers its business class cloud-based voice services from servers housed in highly secure, geographically redundant data centers containing fault-tolerant servers that are load-balanced from server to server.

According to a press release, this service qualifies for E-rate priority 1 discount program. By selecting to deploy a hosted VoIP solution, the Canyons School district will lower total cost of communications services while allowing its freed IT resources to focus on education projects.

The Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund, commonly known as “E-Rate,” makes discounts available to eligible schools and libraries for telecommunication services, Internet access, and internal connections. Michael Bacich, Broadcore's (News - Alert) director of sales, said that the company is thrilled and honored to be selected as a finalist for one of the country's largest hosted VoIP E-Rate projects with nearly 4,000 extensions. Broadcore is proud to be recognized as one of the premier providers of hosted unified communications by the school district.

Broadcore servers are installed in an N+1 configuration with load-balanced, redundant session control for added reliability and virtually limitless capacity. Capacity is increased by interconnection of multiple servers in a stack, through an IP backplane.

In the other company news, TMCnet reported that Broadcore introduced managed business communications services that have empowered some businesses to fight high gas prices by allowing employees to work from home, or by fully operating in virtual company mode.
