ADTRAN'S Total Access 5000 MSAP Selected by WNM Communications for Next-Gen Service Migration

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

ADTRAN (News - Alert), Inc. a provider of converged access solutions announced that WNM Communications has selected its Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform or MSAP for broadband deployment, Carrier Ethernet delivery, and next-generation services migration. WNM Communications provides an array of critical voice and DSL Internet services to over 6,000 customers in southwestern New Mexico.

According to ADTRAN sources the Total Access 5000 solution will be used for Broadband DLC applications using ADSL2+ combo cards. The voice services will presently use industry standard GR-303 switch connections which can be upgraded to SIP in the future by employing a simple provisioning change.

Also the solution enables Carrier Ethernet applications for business customers besides being flexible enough to seamlessly support ATM and Gigabit Ethernet transport options. The Total Access 5000 will also future-proof the network, allowing WNMC to transition to fiber services in the future without a forklift upgrade.

“ADTRAN’s Total Access 5000 enables us to service both business and residential customers from a single platform,” said Dom Bianco, general manager, WNMC. “This solution will allow us to significantly improve our operational efficiency, reduce costs, and gracefully transition to an all-Ethernet architecture without replacing existing ATM-based customer modems or core equipment as we begin our migration to next-generation services.”

Company sources explained that the Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform is most suitable for flexible service delivery across various access technologies and media. This helps service providers deploy different business and residential carrier-class services from a common platform.

Also the all-Ethernet core provides the scalability required by access services and the ability to transition from the legacy installed base to other new revenue sources for next-generation service delivery. The Total Access 5000’s capabilities ensure high efficiency and cost effectiveness in a converged network, said ADTRAN sources.

P. Steven Locke, vice president of sales, service providers, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division said, “The Total Access 5000 opens the door to a full suite of ADTRAN solutions, enabling WNMC to reach new customers and expand its services portfolio. The Total Access 5000 will allow WNMC to enhance operational efficiency for both its CLEC and ILEC business units, while lowering its Total Cost of Ownership with a solution that will position it for the future.”

ADTRAN is a global provider of networking and communications equipment besides offering solutions that enable voice, data, video, and Internet communications across a variety of network infrastructures.
