Global Cache Launches ITach Products to Connect Control Systems to Household DevicesBy Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributor Global Caché has reportedly launched the new iTach Family of Products to connect any control system to common household devices so they can be accessed and controlled easily. The iTach and remote control software is available through iTunes. Global Caché produces state-of-the-art products that enable technology in homes and businesses.
To use iTach, control systems like the Apple iPhone (News - Alert)/iPod touch are transformed into a universal remote control in a couple of minutes. The iPhone/iPod touch or any WiFi (News - Alert)-based controller will then be able to access the TV, DVD, cable box and almost any other electrical device from any room in the house without wiring.
According to Kurt Scherf, vice president and principal analyst with Parks Associates (News - Alert), since 30 million U.S. households use WiFi for home networking, a significant opportunity is present to bring a wireless non-line-of-sight control element into play for consumers' growing collections of consumer electronics. The iTach products will bring a new level of convenience to consumers looking to simplify control of their digital lifestyles products.
ITach is an ultra compact device that will fit in the palm of the user’s hand. WiFi can be used anywhere and does not require line-of-sight access or wiring. In addition, Ethernet wired iTach offers Power a over Ethernet option, that is, no power supply is required. Moreover, iTach is backwards compatible with the Global Caché GC-100 Network Adapter. The prices of the iTach product family range from $139 to $169.
A number of models of iTach like Infrared, Serial, and Relay are available for installation flexibility. Since iTach supports multiple simultaneous connections, up to eight iPhone/iPod devices can simultaneously control one iTach. The iTach also has a highly reliable full-spectrum IR learning built in for easy installation and flexibility as well as an on board Web server for fast and easy setup and configuration. In addition, it is flash upgradeable, which lets it accommodate future upgrades in the field.
Global Caché has partnered with many application and system providers to offer its customers choices and plug-and-play ease of installation and use. Jarrod Bell, president of CommandFusion, said CF iViewer users are iPhone and iPod touch owners and the WiFi version of the iTach is ideal for them. All that is needed is to download CommandFusion's app off the iTunes App Store and configure it for the user’s system, connect the user’s entertainment system using iTach and the user will have the most customizable universal remote control.
