Hughes Software Systems To Enhance interWAVE's GSM Solutions

Hughes Software Systems (HSS) announced that interWAVE Communications International, Ltd. will be employing HSS' technology as part of interWAVE's next generation General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) family of products which will be introduced later this year.

General Packet Radio Services (GPRS) is a packet-based wireless communication service that promises data rates from 56 up to 114 Kbps and continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users. The higher data rates will allow users to take part in videoconferences and interact with multimedia Web sites and similar applications using mobile handheld devices as well as notebook computers. GPRS is based on Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication and will complement existing services such circuit-switched cellular phone connections and the Short Message Service (SMS). By incorporating HSS' GPRS software, interWAVE will be able to enhance the high-end GPRS solutions on its existing GSM based system.

HSS' GPRS software solutions SGSN (Serving GPRS Support Node) and GGSN (Gateway GPRS Support Node) will enable interWAVE to provide high end convergence solutions that add mobile data services over its complete GSM network. interWAVE's solution is perfect for wireless office solutions, remote community deployments, and for special communication needs. interWAVE's robust solution will enable high speed transfer of data from anyplace, anytime, and at much lower connection costs, thereby increasing access to information for people 'on the move'.
