Netopia Introduces New R910 Broadband Security Router

Netopia, Inc. (NASDAQ:NTPA), a market leader in providing broadband Internet equipment and e-commerce Web platforms to small and medium size businesses, has introduced a new Ethernet router that provides secure firewall and VPN capabilities to customers with DSL or cable modem connections for $299.

"The R910 gives our small and medium size business customers using DSL and cable modems a very high performance, cost-effective solution to provide secure Internet access," said Barbara Tien, director of product marketing for Netopia's Internet Equipment Division. "At an estimated street price of $299, the R910 is within reach of price-sensitive small offices and workgroups. We've included advanced, business-class features not usually available, including a one-click firewall and secure Virtual Private Networking (VPN) client and server - many of the same business-class features as its big brother, the R9100. And to give customers an easy upgrade path, we have lowered the estimated street price on our R9100 to $399 effective this month."

The new R910 is a DSL/Cable router with a 10BaseT Ethernet interface to connect to a DSL or Cable modem and four Ethernet ports for interconnecting with computers, printers and other hubs. Its built-in firewall and advanced NAT and MultiNat features provide businesses protection against would-be intruders. The firewall and NAT can be flexibly configured to allow access to LAN-based servers from the Internet or restrict individuals on the LAN from access to the Internet. The R910's VPN functions include the convenience of a PPTP client and server for interoperability with Microsoft NT servers and Dial Up Networking, as well as the sophistication of IPSec and 56-bit DES encryption.

For ease in configuration, the R910 functions as a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) client, server or relay agent, and supports the Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) often used by service providers in delivering Internet access over ADSL or Cable connections. Easy setup makes configuration easy for even novice users and six diagnostic status lights provide at-a-glance management.

Since the R910 uses the same Netopia routing engine as the rest of the Netopia R-series, it benefits from the same sophisticated management utilities ISPs and DSL service providers have come to rely on to deliver business-class service to their customers. Password-protected management security accessible over Telnet, SNMP or a local console connection provides access to all management functions, including sophisticated management utilities such as Trace Route, remote Telnet client and syslog client.

For small and medium sized business users who need more connectivity options, Netopia's R9100 Ethernet router features eight 10BASE-T ports with an uplink switch and V.90 or ISDN dial backup. The R9100 also features out-of-band network management, optional dial-in support and VPN acceleration.
