LEAD IP Announces VPN Solution Enabling Secure
IPSec Connections Without Fixed IP Addresses
LEAD IP Systems has introduced a
breakthrough VPN implementation that offers solid IPSec security in
dynamically addressed environments. The LEADsecure VPN is designed for
broadband Internet service providers that cater to small to medium-sized
enterprise customers that are seeking a cost effective way of securely
interconnecting branch offices, remote workers and business partners over
the Internet.
Facing a shortage of IP numbers, many Internet Service Providers are
limiting the number of static addresses they allocate to customers.
Consequently, corporate customers have to either downgrade IPSec security
by allowing access from unknown IP addresses or use alternative VPN
solutions that provide inferior security. LEADsecure solves this problem
by delivering strong IPSec/IKE security in networks with dynamically
assigned Internet addresses, while at the same time enabling VPN
administrators to identify who is coming into their network and apply
user-based security policies.
The key to it all is LEAD IP's patent-pending Naming/Numbering system,
which essentially provides a built-in Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS)
service. The naming system's job is to assign fixed hostnames to
end-points, such as the LEADsecure VPN, and transparently synchronize
these hostnames with the current IP addresses. As a result, end-points can
easily be tracked and there is no need to assign fixed IP addresses,
manually reserve IPs or register hostnames using third party services.
LEAD IP's Naming/Numbering system also allows small businesses to run
their own Email server and host their own Web site without a permanent IP
address.
"LEAD IP's cutting-edge technology makes it possible for service
providers to sell Internet access service with dynamic IPs and still
provide the robust IPSec security required to guarantee the integrity and
privacy of business-critical data over public networks," said Oded
Tubias, LEAD IP System's product marketing manager. "And, LEAD IP's
VPN solution can be offered at a price that won't burst any IT budget.
It's in IP address conservation and cost/performance that LEADsecure
offers tangible advantages over other VPN solutions," he added.
The LEADsecure package is native to LEADsystem, a service provisioning
system comprising customer-premises telecommunications servers and an
intuitive Web-based management and monitoring platform. LEADsecure
integrates key security features in one product including the VPN router,
local NAT, and packet filtering firewall; all provisioned and administered
centrally with no need for special software on the end-user's computer and
time-consuming local configuration. Using the same management interface,
service providers are also able to provision many other business-class
communications services to start new revenue streams, without deploying
further equipment at the customer site.
