Clarent Announces Scalability Enhancements To Its
PSTN Access Softswitch
Clarent
Corporation announced scalability enhancements to the Clarent PSTN
Access Softswitch. Designed to meet the performance and capacity
requirements of large carriers, the PSTN Access Softswitch solution is
composed of individually scalable components running on high
availability Unix-based platforms. By increasing the scalability of
selected network elements and allowing seamless interoperability with
existing Clarent networks, Clarent enables current and prospective
customers to take advantage of this superior architecture to
cost-effectively grow their networks.
Newly released network elements include the highly scalable
Clarent BHG 1000 media gateway, which is capable of supporting as few
as 120 universal voice, fax or data ports per chassis and more than
10,000 ports in a standard seven foot rack. Designed to interoperate
seamlessly with installed Clarent networks, the BHG 1000 can be
deployed with the Clarent BHG 8000, other Clarent gateways and
selected third party gateways.
Clarent's solution has been further tailored to support
incremental growth with the release of the Integrated SS7 Signaling
(ISS) 1000 and integrated Clarent Announcement Server (CANNS), which
can be easily integrated into the softswitch platform. These products
provide full functionally while allowing service providers to reduce
risk by matching capital expenditures to revenue generation.
"Since 1997 our customers have required that Clarent VoIP
solutions address their near-term requirements while maintaining the
capability to rapidly evolve with growing networks and changing
business models," said Steve Langion, Clarent's Senior Vice President
of Engineering. "The PSTN Access Softswitch represents the logical
next step in the evolution of Clarent's product line, and increased
scalability benefits new and existing customers alike. New customers
have the opportunity to deploy a highly flexible, scalable and
resilient VoIP offering that leverages Clarent's proven expertise,
while current customers can enjoy the advantages of Clarent's
Distributed Softswitch Network Architecture while preserving their
existing investments."
Service providers worldwide rely on Clarent's proven IP-based
solutions, and by the end of 2001 Clarent-based networks were
supporting nearly three quarters of a billion revenue-generating
international VoIP minutes a month. Clarent's PSTN Access Softswitch,
a software-driven Voice over IP (VoIP) solution, enables wholesale
transit and termination of voice traffic over global IP networks. This
highly flexible softswitch also supports retail pre-paid and post-paid
calling card applications and minutes exchange with hundreds of IP
networks around the world.
Because Clarent solutions support multiple business models,
Clarent customers can increase their overall return on investment.
Service providers who have already deployed the PSTN Access Softswitch
solution can leverage the common, underlying architecture to offer
complimentary services to the enterprise, small office/home office
(SoHo), and residential customers using Clarent's Edge Access
Softswitch. The Clarent Edge Access Softswitch supports managed
services for the enterprise ranging from simple hosted network
services for WAN trunking to converged voice and data services
utilizing Clarent's NetPerformer EG. The Edge Access Softswitch also
presents an access agnostic solution that supports lower density VoIP
over broadband for residential and SoHo applications.
