Performance Technologies' Signaling Link
Concentrator Cuts Costs By Reducing Need For New SS7 Links
Performance Technologies, Inc.
introduced the SEGway' Link Concentrator, a
networking device that enables wireless and wireline operators to
significantly reduce operating costs by consolidating and routing SS7
messages over lower-cost IP networks.
Performance Technologies' SEGway Link Concentrator and SEGway Edge work together to save network operators
money. First, the SEGway Edge lowers operating costs by transporting
SS7 traffic over shared packet networks rather than expensive,
dedicated circuits. Secondly, the SEGway Link Concentrator reduces
the need to add links to Signal Transfer Points (STPs) by
concentrating SS7 traffic onto fewer, highly utilized links. The
SEGway Link Concentrator acts as an STP in the public switched
telephone network, concentrating and routing messages between nodes
using SS7 or IP signaling protocols.
The SEGway products utilize the Internet Engineering Task Force's
Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) to ensure that SS7
messages are transported and routed as efficiently and reliably over
IP networks as over traditional public switched telephone networks.
"Using the SEGway Edge, network operators can significantly reduce
the cost of transporting SS7 traffic," said Robert Mason, director of
marketing for Performance Technologies. "The SEGway Link
Concentrator lowers costs even further by reducing the need to add
expensive new links to STPs. With its low cost of ownership, our
customers will realize rapid payback on their investment in our
SEGway network solution."
All SEGway units take up less than two inches of vertical space in a
standard telecom central office rack. Powered by Performance
Technologies' carrier-grade MicroLegend" SS7/IP signaling software,
SEGway products are designed for easy installation and network
management and priced to ensure carriers save money in meeting the
demands of high-growth SS7 networks.
