Insignia to Enhance Secure System
Provisioning Using ARM TrustZone
Insignia Solutions announced that
the company will enhance its Secure System Provisioning product by using
the new ARM TrustZone technology, enabling increased security for the
Over-The-Air Repair capabilities of a new generation of
mobile phones.
Insignia Secure System Provisioning (SSP) is an end-to-end system that
enables mobile operators and phone manufacturers to reduce software
recalls and customer care costs by enabling Over-The-Air Repair and
dynamic updates to mobile devices.
Insignia will enhance the client portion of SSP to leverage the
newly-introduced ARM TrustZone technology, providing an even more secure
method of updating the low level firmware on these devices. ARM TrustZone
technology provides a secure foundation for systems running open operating
systems like Linux, Palm OS, Symbian OS and Windows CE. The technology is
implemented within the microprocessor core itself, ensuring that security
issues surrounding proprietary, non-portable solutions outside the core
are removed.
"Providing dynamic updates over the air will be crucial for
keeping down
recall costs and providing new capabilities for the latest mobile devices.
Insignia is meeting this market need for more robust security by enabling
Over-The-Air Repair capabilities of mobile devices through its open,
standards-based technology," said Richard York, Secure Technology
product
manager, ARM. "ARM continues to develop innovative technologies such
as
TrustZone technology which, combined with our industry-leading
microprocessor cores, development tools and proven design methodologies
that
accelerate the implementation of our IP, provide Partners such as Insignia
with a innovative solution."
"Both ARM and Insignia share a common vision of secure platforms
that enable
a range of new and valuable services for mobile devices," said Peter
Bernard, chief product officer, Insignia Solutions. "The new ARM
TrustZone
technology provides the ability to securely and remotely update phones to
repair software issues an enhance capabilities."
