Vividon Intros Steaming Media Delivery System

Vividon Inc. announced the introduction of its Streaming Delivery System. Vividons streamers reduce the total cost of ownership associated with streaming media delivery by providing high levels of price-performance in a compact footprint, making the systems ideal for service provider, content delivery and enterprise applications.

Vividon is delighted to achieve this major milestone for the company and for the streaming market in general, said David Ellenberger, CEO and president of Vividon. Combined with key technology partnerships and our customer-focused sales and support organizations, Vividon is now well positioned to extend our leadership by offering the products, support and services the market demands.

The Vividon Streaming Delivery System offers measurable return on investment as a result of the following:

  • High performance and low cost per stream, reducing capital investment required to support high-quality streaming services.
  • Edge-delivery of streaming content reduces backbone bandwidth needs, allowing for more efficient resource utilization and lower recurring monthly WAN costs.
  • Network Aware technology further optimizes upstream bandwidth while assuring the highest quality of streaming delivery service.
  • Highest performance per unit of rack space optimizes operating expense by reducing rack space needs while also lowering power and cooling requirements.

The future of streaming remains bright, as evidenced by the forecasts of Jupiters recent study of streaming in the enterprise. Streaming media will be a major force as companies leverage this emerging technology to enhance communications, and differentiate from the competition, said Peter Christy, research fellow, Jupiter Research. A key factor in the evolution of streaming media is improving delivery efficiency --Vividons technology is at the forefront of these efforts.

The elements of the Vividon Streaming Delivery System announced include the Streaming Delivery Accelerator (SDA) and the Vividon Service Manager (VSM).

The SDA is optimized for concurrent streaming throughput from 100 Mbps to over OC12 rates (622 Mbps), making it ideal for edge, core or enterprise applications. Vividon system capabilities are based on all unique content streams being pulled from disk. By assuring wire-speed performance from disk, the Vividon system can fully utilize the underlying Internet WAN and backbone infrastructure to fulfill current and future streaming needs.

Delivering streaming media is fundamentally different from traditional Web content. The two biggest differences are that streaming content is several orders of magnitude larger and the delivery is session oriented, said Eric Kraieski, vice president of product marketing for Vividon. Addressing streaming specific issues has enabled Vividon to establish new levels of scalable and reliable streaming performance, ultimately allowing our customers to improve services and significantly lower their total cost of ownership.

The Vividon Streaming Delivery System is interoperable with existing Internet infrastructure and does not require the service provider to re-architect its network in order to deploy scalable and high performance streaming services. The system supports all major streaming protocols including Windows Media, Real Media Proxy, QuickTime and HTTP.

Vividon also simplifies streaming network management through the Vividon Service Manager. The VSM, a Web-based tool, provides unique, illustrated, performance metrics for all SDAs within the network, as well as content management capabilities relating to pre-populating functions and cache management.
