VA Linux Ships New High-Performance 1U Linux
Server
VA Linux Systems, Inc. announced
the availability of the ultradense VA Linux 1221 server -- a
full-featured, high-performance 1U Linux server offering remote management
capabilities with VACM, VA's cluster management software. The 1221 server
is the latest addition to VA's family of high-density 1U rackmount Linux
servers ideal for large-scale deployments in web server farms and compute
clusters.
Starting at under $2,800, the VA Linux 1221 server supports dual
Gigahertz Intel Pentium III processors, up to 4GB of memory, and two hot
swappable SCSI disk drives. With two 64-bit/66-Mhz PCI slots, three
10/100 integrated Ethernet ports and optional Ultra160 RAID capability,
the 1221 offers fast performance, flexibility and scalability to 2.3
Terabytes. Serial port access on the front panel of the 1221 server makes
it easy to plug in laptops, telco equipment or switches.
The 1221 complements VA's entry-level 1120 server, a uni-processor 1U
system starting at under $1,000, and the recently announced
next-generation 2200 series 2U servers with larger storage capacities.
"With the VA Linux 1221, we're offering even more choices to
customers as they select the building blocks for their large-scale Linux
server infrastructures," said John T. Hall, senior vice president of
marketing, VA Linux Systems. "From web server farms to compute
clusters, VA's high-density Linux servers -- together with VACM -- provide
a powerful solution for distributed Linux environments."
By using VACM, VA's powerful Open Source cluster management software,
customers can turn racks of VA Linux 1221 servers into unified server
arrays that can be managed securely from anywhere in the world. VACM is
part of a comprehensive management solution from VA Linux that also
includes VA SystemImager software.
As with all systems from VA Linux, the 1221 servers have been designed
and configured for optimal Linux performance and include VA's
award-winning "Total Linux Coverage (TLC)" support and service
as a standard feature. Customers requiring further fine-tuning of the
operating system software can take advantage of BOSS, VA Linux Systems'
unique Build-to-Order Software Selector, which enables online
configuration of the operating system and applications.
