Mediatrix Launches First In A Family Of
Residential IP Telephony Gateways
Mediatrix Telecom, Inc.
announced the launch of the Mediatrix 1102, the first member of a family
of residential gateway products. Mediatrix also announced that its entire
product line has been tested to interoperate with Microsoft Windows XP
operating systems real-time communications features.
Optimized for deployment by both residential and SOHO end-users, the
Mediatrix 1102 provides a simple and cost-effective way to migrate to IP
telephony without the need to change the existing desktop. For service
providers, it creates additional revenue opportunities by immediately
bringing existing users on line to new IP telephony services. Its
multi-protocol and remote upgrade capabilities protect it from
obsolescence as standards evolve and new service offerings are created.
The Mediatrix 1102 provides an RJ-45 10/100 interface to the network,
commonly provided by a broadband modem or similar device, plus two RJ-11
analog telephone ports and an RJ-45 10/100 port to the users desktop
devices. The Mediatrix 1102 can be configured to support SIP, MGCP, NCS or
H.323-based IP telephony signaling protocols, can dynamically detect the
most commonly used IP telephony codecs and fax protocols, including T.38,
and can be auto-provisioned, remotely managed and upgraded. The Mediatrix
1102 is shipping today and attractive volume discounts are available.
Testing at Microsoft labs and at Mediatrix labs has demonstrated that
Mediatrixs products and Microsoft Windows XP operating system can be
deployed together to create comprehensive solutions for both residential
and enterprise users. The industry standard Session Initiation Protocol
(SIP), which has been offered as an option in Mediatrix products for the
past three years, is supported by Windows XP. Windows Messenger, which is
an integrated center for all communications, providing support for video
and voice calls as well as other real-time communications services, makes
use of SIP.
"Windows XP has made the PC experience more compelling in many
ways, enabling more people to take advantage of these capabilities and
creating new opportunity for the industry," said David Gurle, product
unit manager at Microsoft Corp. "Embracing standards such as SIP, as
Windows XP and its Windows Messenger feature do, enables interoperability
between products from Mediatrix or other companies, providing customers
new choice and innovation."
"Mediatrix is the leading vendor of IP telephony edge devices for
residential, SOHO and SME applications," said Dr. Marco Genoni,
President and CEO of Mediatrix. "The launch of the Mediatrix 1102
demonstrates our commitment to extend our solutions to all segments of the
IP telephony market and to maintain our leadership in the technology that
represents the future of communications."
