Tellabs' Cable Voice Modem Achieves DOCSIS 1.1
Certification
Tellabs received
industry certification from CableLabs, the cable industry's research and
development consortium, for its high-speed cable device that provides
voice
and data services using Internet Protocol (IP). This certification, DOCSIS
(Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) 1.1, confirms that the
Tellabs CVM410 embedded multimedia terminal adapter (EMTA) will operate
with
almost any other DOCSIS 1.1-certified cable TV equipment.
The Tellabs CVM410 EMTA delivers voice-over IP primary line telephony,
cable TV and high-speed data to a home or small business over a hybrid
fiber
coax (HFC) network. When the Tellabs CVM410 EMTA works with other DOCSIS
1.1-certified equipment, these systems will enable operators to achieve
twice
the level of high-speed Internet functionality over previous standards,
while
reducing operating costs by half.
"Our Internet-based voice and data cable devices enable our
customers to
offer enhanced broadband services and augment their revenue streams,"
said Tom
Gruenwald, senior vice president and general manager of Tellabs' Broadband
Access Group. "DOCSIS certification from CableLabs gives our
customers
assurance that our products are high-quality and have met the industry's
standards for technological development and interoperability."
CableLabs is the certification lab for DOCSIS. CableLabs is a research
and development consortium of cable television system operators
representing
the continents of North America and South America. CableLabs plans and
funds
research and development projects that will help cable companies take
advantage of future opportunities and meet future challenges in provision
of
television, data, and Internet services to consumers.
