Now, More than Ever, the Need for Quality Content is Clear

March 10, 2011

Special Guest Contributor: Feature Article

By now, you may have heard about the recent algorithm change Google has made, intended to reduce the rankings of “low quality sites” in search results. You may be wondering: "What does this change mean for my TMCnet Online Community?"

This change echoes what we at TMCnet have known for the 10 years we’ve been building successful Online Communities; that quality content is the key to a successful Online Community as it drives organic search results and positions your company as a thought leader in your industry.  Our decade plus of experience shows the more quality, credible content, the better. Our editorial teams are armed and ready with great ideas for improving the numbers and quality of content on your Community to help keep it ranking well organically, and ensure it gets bookmarked so purchasing decision-makers will return again and again.

For example, Google (News - Alert) states that their changes will “provide better rankings for high-quality sites – sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.” This is, and always has been, part of our credo at TMCnet; we encourage our customers to work with us on developing White Papers, Press Releases, E-Books, Product Reviews, Case Studies and more to demonstrate true thought leadership in your industry space on your Online Community. This kind of quality content will help boost your brand and thought leadership while likely increasing your ranking so you can be found by your target audience.

Moreover, the volume of quality and related content on your community is more important now than ever. For example, if TMCnet builds a coffee community for Starbucks, it will be more credible and useful, and attract a more qualified audience if the community also discusses Dunkin Donuts, Maxwell House and other brands. In other words, a true content-generated community on a specific subject matter is far more credible if it covers the entire industry space – not just a single company.

While we’ll be using this newsletter to highlight ways that Community sponsors are using quality content on their sites, we encourage you to speak with your editorial team for additional ideas. The possibilities are endless, and we are excited about what’s in store for your Online Communities as we continue to make them stronger in the future.
