DataWind, a provider of wireless web access products and services, has launched PocketSurfer2, an ultra-thin, ultra-portable Internet communications device. With Pocketsurfer2, the customers can get the original graphic intensity of the Internet rapidly and wirelessly to the palm of their hands, free.
The PocketSurfer2 has a 640 x 240 color widescreen display, enabling users to browse the web in its original HTML layout, with full graphics, Java support and other complex web functionality. Other features include an integrated mouse pointer and a full format, backlit QWERTY keyboard.
True to its name, PocketSurfer2 fits conveniently in a pocket or bag and provides a surfing experience equivalent to that at home. The patented acceleration technology of Datawind makes sure that the page load time is under seven seconds over GPRS. Other similar devices will take up to two minutes to load a similar web page, according to the company.
To prove its claim as the fastest mobile handheld web access device, Datawind is offering an industry-wide speed challenge at its launch event and select trade shows.
The PocketSurfer2’s marketing is intended to attract customers. The free-usage model put forth by the company gets rid of the complexity of buying mobile web devices by eliminating lengthy contractual payments, activation fees and credit checks.
The company enables users to activate PocketSurfer2 right out of the box; the device is ready to use shortly thereafter. In addition, there are no Wi-Fi hotspot restrictions as free usage for the PocketSurfer2 is available everywhere a mobile phone works.
The PocketSurfer2 is priced at GBP 179.99 and it is available through independent consumer electronics and mobile phone stores throughout the UK starting August 16th, 2007. The PocketSurfer2 will also be available through online retailers and television direct marketing from July 25. Pre-orders can also be placed through Amazon UK (amazon.co.uk) to obtain priority delivery.
