Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. has announced new additions to its product-range of high-performance LSIs, that find application in full high-definition LCD TVs. Based in Tokyo, OKI (News - Alert) is Japan’s pioneering telecommunications company. The three new driver LSIs — MT3126, MT3131, and MT3139 — come with enhanced features that include high-speed drive, multi-grayscales, and low heat generation.

 

With a two-fold increase in drive speed over that used for conventional W-XGA LCD TVs, the new LSI models will enhance the response time of LCD pixels. An improvement over the conventional 8-bit multi-grayscales (for a 16 million color display), the 10-bit multi-grayscales (for 1 billion color display) used in the new models provide greater precision in color displays. To top it all, with the help of the revolutionary DAC (digital to analog converter) circuit, the 10bit multi-grayscale enhancement has been achieved without a significant increase in cost. Last but not the least, OKI has achieved a 35% reduction in the heat generated by the LSIs by leveraging its unique circuit technology.

 

“With this new series, full high definition LCD TVs can be compliant to advanced technologies, enabling higher quality TVs,” said Takaki Yamada, president of Silicon Microdevice Company at Oki Electric Industry. “We will provide these three models that achieve high-speed drive, multi-grayscales, and low heat generation worldwide from May 2007.”
