NTT DoCoMo Unveils Secure 3G Handset

NTT DoCoMo (News - Alert) Inc. is introducing the 3G FOMA F903iBSC business-use handset, helping companies address security issues such as information leaks and non-work-related use of corporate phones.



 
The 3G FOMA F903iBSC comes without camera, external memory, USB and infrared ports, and the Osaifu-Keitai e-wallet service to avoid information leakage. Furthermore, the phonebook is limited to 101 entries.
 
In case, the handset is lost, DoCoMo will reset functions such as phonebook, e-mail, scheduler, data box, call records and screen memos on request. The company has also integrated a security tool that automatically locks all functions when the handset is shut. Unlocking can be done with biometric fingerprint authorization or a password.
 
The F903iBSC won’t have a music player or preinstalled i-appli Java-based applications. According to the news release, DoCoMo will introduce the handset in Japan from March 19. The F903iBSC will be sold exclusively through DoCoMo's corporate business divisions.
