LYCOS Inc., a major community destination for high quality broadband entertainment content, has launched LYCOSmobile by PlayPhone, its mobile content site, providing hundreds of downloadable games, wallpapers and ringtones for mobile phones.

The site is reportedly powered by PlayPhone, Inc., the pioneer of direct-to-consumer wireless distribution. Search and technology Web sites are operated by LYCOS that foster online communities such as Angelfire.com, the popular community destination on the Web for teens and tweens.

Bringing its vast library of mobile content to LYCOS.com, PlayPhone allows mobile phone users to quickly and easily download hundreds of the most popular mobile entertainment properties available.

The online storefront platform of PlayPhone is structured by a subscription model. For $9.99 a month the consumers can purchase ten credits on the LYCOSmobile by PlayPhone site towards content to customize their mobile phone with their favorite games, wallpapers and ringtones.

While wallpapers and ringtones start at just one credit, unused credits roll over to the next month. Currently, LYCOSmobile by PlayPhone is offering 10 bonus credits with the first month's subscription fee. LYCOS's other entertainment and community sites will support and cross-promote the LYCOSmobile by Playphone site including Angelfire.com, Tripod.com and Gamesville.com.
