By Arvind Arora, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Diamond Multimedia, a company that provides PC graphics cards, sound cards and communications products, has announced the launch of the new ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card with 1 gigabyte of memory.

The new graphics card is a dual slot card that offers a memory speed of 900 MHz, and has been designed with 800 stream processors PCIE 2.0, featuring 1024MB of DDR5 memory and a clock speed of 750 MHz.

Offering plug-and-play ATI CrossFireX upgradeability with up to quad-GPU support, the HD 4870 is powered by ATI's Power Play and 55nm processing technology that make it fast and efficient, providing the users with the ultimate gaming performance for the latest DirectX 10 and 10.1 games.

The newest addition to the Radeon HD 4000 series of graphic processing units (GPU) by Diamond Multimedia offers a Blu-ray functionality with dual-stream, picture in picture (PIP) capabilities, coupled with graphics support for the latest Microsoft (News - Alert) DirectX 10.1 games and realistic 3D graphics and shading effects. The best of Windows Vista and advantage of the Windows Aero graphical interface can be experienced deploying this card, which delivers its superlative visual performance with a powerful new TeraScale engine that delivers high resolutions and fast frame rates.

The card is equipped with a Unified Video Decoder 2 that delivers the most processing-intensive video content, including VC-1, H.264 and now MPEG-2, to save the CPU from the extra-processing load.

Diamond carefully tests and retests every new model for its ratio of performance to reliability, and has a less than one percent return rate vs. an industry average of about 10 percent. The company utilizes high-quality connectors, cables and components in its cards, which are thoroughly tested for heat susceptibility and durability by the company, before launching them to the market.

The new ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB cards will be available at Amazon, CompUSA, Newegg, NCIX, Tiger Direct and ZipZoomFly.

Diamond Multimedia has been developing advanced graphics, digital television, communications and sound hardware solutions for home and business users’ graphics for two decades.
