RingtoneFeeder Provides Innovative Music Distribution System

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributing Editor

RingtoneFeeder announced today that it’s launched a new method of packaging and distributing music in a way that provides value beyond the original purchase of the album.

Named “Dynamic Albums,” the model delivers updates to the album via RSS for up to 12 months after the date of release date, according to the company.

Updates are expected to include karaoke versions, video clips and invitations to private USTREAM concerts, tracks and ringtones, company officials say. There are a total of 26 updates available, they say, and the first album that will be sold in this manner is Geoff Smith’s newest release “Ones and 0s.” Smith is also a RingtoneFeeder partner, according to the company.

“Ones and 0s” features “a very obvious geek culture theme,” officials say, making it suitable for the new concept in music distribution. Some of the songs on the album have already found a fan base on the Internet. “Digg the Code” was written in response to the controversy over Digg.com and HDDVD, while “I’m a TWiT” is now the theme song for Leo Laporte’s TWiT live show.

The title track “One and 0s” explains the need for perspective when dealing with blogs, comments, chat rooms, and message boards, encouraging the use of kindness in Internet communications, company officials say.

The light-hearted record carries a number of tongue-in-cheek songs such as “Quit My Day Job and Love Everybody.” “Set the Music Free” and “Hello Hello” (inspired by The Beatles) as well as “Talk Like a Man” are all popular songs.

“We do not subscribe to the idea of continuously reducing the price of music which eventually will hurt the industry, instead we believe in adding value to the audience and make use of the global reach to get closer to the audience using the technologies available already today,” said Geoff Smith, partner and producer at RingtoneFeeder.

RingtoneFeeder provides a subscription model that can automatically install two new original ringtones via iTunes on the iPhone (News - Alert) each week, according to the company. Ten of the latest ringtones are delivered upon initial subscription, company officials say. Early subscriptions to the service will result in a bigger collection for the subscriber. Once a ringtone is released, it does not appear in the weekly updates again.
