ATEN Intros New Keyboard, Video and Mouse Combo

By Shireen Dee, TMCnet Contributing Editor

ATEN (News - Alert) International recently announced the launch of its latest CN8000 keyboard, video and mouse combo, which offers both PS/2 and USB connections.

The CN8000 ‘KVM on the NET’ (News - Alert) package offers additional modem port that enables emergency access even in instances when the network is down through the modem’s out-of-band connectivity. While it can remotely transfer out-of-band data to any server through the connected switch, it is also capable of performing diagnostic tests, downloading files and installing programs or even operating system patches directly from a Virtual Media connection.

“For organizations with multiple locations, remote management is not a luxury but a necessity. With the new CN8000 KVM on the NET, network administrators can connect the IP (Internet Protocol) control unit to existing KVM switches to gain centralized control of remote servers and computers but also have the capability to manage their customers and do business remotely – even when the network goes down,” elaborated Kevin Chen, President of ATEN International.

While it gives access at the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) level and can be concurrently used by 32 users with one user’s access rights, the CN8000 provides support for ATEN Power over the NET (PON) remote power distribution units and supports remote power control.

“When connected to our PN0108 Power over the NET switch, the new CN8000 allows network administrators to remotely power off, power on, and reboot attached devices,” Chen continued.

With a multilingual user interface and a color depth of 24-bit via IP and 32 bit via local console connections, the CN8000 KVM provides for high level security with its three level access and supports external authentication. Capable of event logging, it also has an admin “end session” command which forces users to go offline.

While it can provide support to RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial In User Services), LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) and MS (Microsoft (News - Alert) ) active directory, the CN8000 is priced at an MSRP(Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) of £299, excluding VAT (Value Added Tax).

“In this day and age when security is paramount yet remote access is business-critical, the CN8000 fits the bill for both these IT needs. The added value of Virtual Media support makes this product even more beneficial and productive for SMBs (Small and Medium Businesses) to enterprise organizations,” Chen added.
