DALSA announced today that it’s selected Sohonet Solutions as a so-called “Workflow Partner.”
Under the designation, Sohonet Solutions will function as the preferred partner to manage the data workflow generated by the new generation of DALSA cameras, according to the companies.
According to DALSA, working closely with Sohonet Solutions ensures the data output from DALSA’s Origin and Evolution cameras can be managed and delivered to the various production departments in an effective way.
Jon Ferguy, senior partner at Sohonet Solutions said that the company can deliver 4K data generated by DALSA faster and more efficiently than HD camera-to-tape workflows, even though HD uses much lower data rates.
“This will mean that DALSA users will benefit not just from the higher quality of the DALSA images, but substantial savings in time and resources, both on set and into Post,” Ferguy said.
Sohonet Solutions officials say theirs is the media and entertainment industry’s knowledgeable resource in the expanding realm of high volume digital workflow.
Founded in response to the rapidly growing need for guidance and problem solving among film and television companies during the transition to file-based digital workflow, Sohonet Solutions is addressing a growing trend within the industry, company officials say.
Sohonet officials say their company pioneered the private networking model for high-speed data pipelines for the global entertainment industry more than 10 years ago. With its experience in managing huge volumes of digital media, Sohonet was in a unique position to apply its depth of knowledge to the needs and challenges of rapidly shifting technologies within the industry, they say.
Sohonet Solutions has already completed consulting assignments for the Moving Picture Company, Capital FX, Midnight Transfer, Pinewood Sound, Animal Logic and the recent and upcoming feature films “Speed Racer” and “James Bond: Quantum of Solace.”
Rob Hummel, president of digital cinema at DALSA, said, “I have worked with the Sohonet team since I was with Warner Bros, where they had the distinction of being the only supplier that actually delivered on what they said they would, and then proceeded to exceed my expectations. At DALSA we recently used Sohonet Solutions for a major effects shoot for the new Bond production (Quantum of Solace), and could not have completed that project without them. Not surprisingly, Sohonet again exceeded my expectations. We’re confident that any production using Sohonet Solutions will have a great experience.”
