Verbatim to Deliver Qflix DVD Media

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Verbatim Americas has announced a complete line of Qflix DVD media. Qflix technology, using recordable Content Scramble System (CSS (News - Alert)) technology and licensed from Sonic Solutions, allows movies and other video content to be downloaded and legally burned.

Verbatim Qflix media is compatible with all Qflix recording hardware. Also, you can play back them in the vast majority of the nearly one billion consumer DVD players worldwide, all of which have built-in CSS support, once you burn them.

With applications like retail and commercial download and burn application, including DVD burning on home PCs, in-store kiosk burning, and manufacturing on demand (MOD) services, the applications for Verbatim’s new Qflix media span every consumer. The new product line will include both Qflix consumer media and printable Qflix Pro media for enterprise use.

According to Wireless News, Tim Clatterbuck, Verbatim Optical Storage Manager, said, “Verbatim views Qflix technology as an entertainment breakthrough. High-quality media that provides broad compatibility will be key to the rapid adoption rate of this technology, and that s where Verbatim media excels. In addition, through our collaboration with Sonic and the leading burner/recorder manufacturers, our Qflix customers can be confident that they also have the best compatibility between Qflix hardware and our media.”

Verbatim Qflix media will be available in Q1 2008, with multiple disc label options to fit numerous business models. Qflix Consumer comes with pre-keyed CSS and will be available in individual slim cases. Professionals can get Qflix Pro in 50-pack spindles with a white inkjet coating from Verbatim. Verbatim Qflix Pro DVDs will also be available with a white thermal-printable coating.

By having Verbatim as an official manufacturer and distributor of Qflix DVDs, companies like Sonic Solutions will seek to gain momentum to the launch of new, efficient models for the distribution of high-quality entertainment. Verbatim Qflix media will be released to coincide with the availability of Qflix drives and video download services in Q1 2008.
