Gefen, a global provider of A/V solutions, has selected Gennum Corporation’s ActiveConnect technology. By leveraging the ActiveConnect technology in its new HDMI Over RGB Extender product offering, Gefen will be able to dramatically extend the distance that high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) signals can reliably be streamed over legacy cables.

 

Based upon ActiveConnect technology, Gefen’s new product can stream high performance HDMI at up to 50 meters. The solution offers a reliable and robust method of extending HDMI signals over standard RGBH&V (red, green, blue, horizontal sync and vertical sync) cables that are terminated with a BNC connector. The new product will be displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES (News - Alert)) in Las Vegas.

 

According to Hagai Gefen, president and CEO of Gefen, the Gennum ActiveConnect solution allows HDMI to be transmitted in high definition resolutions to any destination where projectors or displays are using RGBH&V cable with BNC. He explained that the system employs Gennum's ActiveConnect technology and is capable of delivery up to 150 feet making it well suited for most home installations.

 

Gefen said that the solution supports 1080p at 50 meters, which brings freedom and flexibility to home theater installations. Consumers can thus link various pieces of equipment throughout their home without any degradation in multimedia performance and without the expense of re-cabling.

 

“There is no other solution that can provide this performance over existing RGBH&V cables,” Gefen said in a statement.

 

Senior Vice President and GM of the Analog & Mixed-Signal Division, Gennum Corporation, Martin Rofheart said in a statement that the custom install market has been looking for a solution that will deliver the HDMI performance that they require, yet without the expense of all new cabling.

 

Rofheart explained that by leveraging ActiveConnect, The Gefen HDMI over RGB Extender delivers that capability and its unprecedented connectivity distance enables Gefen to truly differentiate its offering in this market.
