Lagotek to Demo iPhone and iPod Touch Home Control Gadget at CES 2008

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Lagotek will present its “HIP1 Modes” Sideshow home control gadget for iPhone and iPod Touch at CES 2008. The solution demo is made possible by technology from Ikanos (News - Alert) Consulting Go Gadgets.

Ikanos Consulting Ltd. is a UK-based software company that specializes in Windows SideShow-related technologies and software for connected smart devices.

Claiming it to be the first technology that enables the use of iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod touch for home control over WiFi and GPRS/EDGE, the company said that it has the ability to run Vista Sideshow gadgets on Apple’s (News - Alert) devices to control home computing and entertainment systems.

Go Gadgets for iPhone and iPod touch is a Web-based application which, when installed on Windows Vista, allows users to turn an iPod touch or iPhone into a Windows SideShow-capable device.

Go Gadgets is a client-server system for adding Windows SideShow capability to a wide range of connected smart devices. The solution also supports devices based on Windows Mobile, Windows CE, and J2ME, and allows remote access to Windows SideShow gadgets via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or GPRS/EDGE/3G.

Windows SideShow is a technology built into Windows Vista that allows small software applications, called gadgets, to be used on small-screen connected devices such as remote controls, fridge magnets and secondary displays on laptops.

“This is probably the highest concentration of coolness in one device with Vista Sideshow on iPod doing home automation over WiFi (News - Alert),” said Lagotek CEO Eugene Luskin in a statement. “Our friends at Ikanos Consulting are amazing and, working together, we can achieve in weeks what Microsoft (News - Alert) and Apple would never be able to bring to the market. I am very excited with this important step in making Lagotek’s vision of 'Automation in every home from any device and from anywhere' closer to reality. This is a perfect complementary solution for our cell phone home control application.”

Lagotek Corporation headquartered in Bellevue, WA was founded in 2004 with the vision of bringing automation to every home to improve the quality of people’s lives by providing “Smarter Homes for Better Living.”

Powered by dual-wireless technology, Lagotek’s Home Intelligence platform makes the luxury and energy savings of whole home control available to everyone. Distributed and supported by a network of Lagotek Certified Professional Installers, Lagotek’s systems are equally suited for both new construction and existing homes.
