Telstra has launched the first Sony Ericsson ( News - Alert) mobile handset on its Next G network, the Z750, which comes with “Telstra Blue Tick” for recommended handheld use in rural and regional areas.
Through Sony Ericsson Z750 on Telstra's Next G network, customers can access mobile content and applications including BigPond TV, 33 channels on Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra, Sensis search services, and also an array of the latest news, weather and sports reports.
Telstra officials explained that like any other mobile network, Next G mobile telephone coverage depends on where the customers are, what handset they are using and whether the handset has an external antenna attached.
“The launch of the Sony Ericsson Z750 on Telstra's Next G network is great news for customers, particularly in rural and regional areas, as they now have nearly thirty devices on the Next G network to choose from, including five with Telstra's Blue Tick,” Gary Goldsworthy, director for country wide at Telstra, said in a statement.
Noting that with just over a month to go before the scheduled closure of the old CDMA network, Goldsworthy added that “now is the time to move to Telstra's Next G network and the Sony Ericsson Z750 is an ideal handset to start using.”
He also warned that it was important for customers, especially those in regional and rural Australia, to consider their needs carefully when choosing a mobile phone.
He stated that with so many handsets currently available, it can be difficult making an informed decision. “If a customer wants to move off the old CDMA network and on to Telstra's Next G network, then the best way forward is to drop into a Telstra Shop or Dealer and consult with the expert sales staff,” added Goldsworthy.
Claiming that Sony Ericsson Z750 will appeal to younger customers, Ross Fielding, executive director of product management at Telstra, said, “The Sony Ericsson Z750 is a compact flip top handset offering a 2MP camera, FM radio, media player, video calling, MMS functionality and much more.”
“Sony Ericsson's Z750 handset combines the style and sophistication of one of the world's leading handset brands with Telstra's Next G network, which provides the largest 3G mobile coverage in Australia,” added Fielding.
