Nokia Pushes Back Gaming Service Launch to New Year

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Nokia (News - Alert) has again pushed back the launch of its gaming service N-gage due to delays in software testing. For the last few years the company has been coming up with ambitious plans to dominate the mobile Internet arena under its new brand, ‘Ovi.”

The company had unveiled its gaming content in August this year and had declared that it will be available in November. But in November, the company postponed the release to December and now, it has once again been postponed to the New Year.

The gaming service is expected to have a music shop and mapping services, and Nokia is banking heavily on this service to achieve its mobile Internet goals. The company had signed up leading service providers like Vodafone, Telefonica and Telecom Italia (News - Alert), to take its product to the masses.

According to a report in Reuters, Nokia’s spokesman Kari Tuutti said the service would be opened in early 2008. With this, the company has also pushed the launch of its digital music store to next year as well. The digital music store from the company has run into troubles as Warner music has been withholding content from Nokia in its digital music store in Britain.

When a handset manufacturer like Nokia comes up with the content services, the users will presumably garner many advantages. The handset will be optimally designed to make the best possible use of available content. For a company like Nokia, which has captured the market with its constant innovations, keeping the interest of the customers in the content area should not be all that difficult!
