AmieStreet.com and Myxer Enables Consumers to Determine the Price of Ringtones

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

AmieStreet.com, a fast-growing digital music store with a unique demand-based pricing system has partnered with Myxer to offer its members variably priced ringtones. The companies have chosen to offer “Walk Wit A Limp” as their first ringtone from multi-platinum hip hop and television star Romeo. Similar to all music on AmieStreet.com, this ringtone’s price will start free, and will rise in price based on its popularity with Amie Street members.

AmieStreet.com will leverage Myxer’s content mobilizing platform to bring its community pricing model to the ringtone market, and offer ringtones at multiple price points based on their popularity with members. Members of the community drive the discovery, promotion and pricing of music at AmieStreet.com. At this unique store, all ringtones will start at a price of zero cents.

The company explains that as more people purchase a ringtone the price rises, capping at $1.99. Thanks to the dynamic prices on AmieStreet.com, fans can buy music without breaking the bank. The dynamic prices serve as a useful tool for finding great music, often for free.

AmieStreet.com will use the Myxer platform to create and distribute mobile ringtones quickly and easily. Myxer has the ability to eliminate the technical challenges, contractual and other administrative barriers that often make creating and distributing mobile content prohibitive. All artists at AmieStreet.com will be able to sell the ringtones from their artist store, where they also sell their mp3s. Once the mobile content is uploaded to Amie Street, it is automatically available to the burgeoning community of over 2.5 million users who actively download more than 6 million pieces of mobile content each month at myxertones.com.

“Myxer is making the content world mobile, and by powering AmieStreet.com’s ringtone offering, we are able to show how quickly and easily that can be done,” said Myk Willis, founder and chief technology officer of Myxer in a statement.

Willis continued: “Just as Myxer has democratized mobile content distribution, so has Amie Street democratized digital music and ringtone pricing - allowing the consumers full access to and control over the value of music.”

AmieStreet.com’s co-CEO Elias Roman said that when they decided to offer community-priced, a la carte ringtones, Myxer was the logical choice because of its simplicity and established product. He added that they are now able to bring social music discovery to the mobile market while staying focused on providing a music retail experience that is totally community-driven.
