Fujitsu Releases Enhanced PBX, Networking Capabilities
& Messaging Platform Fujitsu Business Communication Systems, the
North American business information technology unit of Fujitsu Limited, has announced the
availability of a new private branch exchange (PBX) product and two related software
products.
The F9600 Enhanced System (ES) Multimedia Platform PBX is designed to provide a
cost-effective access and switching platform for businesses requiring 48 to 1,000 voice,
data or video stations on their premises. The scalable design assures users of common
hardware and software as their business grows to the F9600 system capacity of 9,600
stations. The F9600 ES offers optional hardware redundancy for the fault-tolerant
operation of mission-critical business applications.
The F9600 ES is based on the existing F9600 VS physical design yet incorporates the
full switching functionality of the larger and redundant F9600 M. This system
consolidation provides common cabinet design, layout and size while offering the same
telephones and common control, line and trunk cards across the station range previously
covered by the F9600 VS and F9600 M/MS. With the introduction of new common control
equipment for the F9600 ES, two additional card slots have been freed for use as line and
trunk cards. The maximum configuration of the F9600 ES is more than double that of the
F9600 VS.
As a member of the F9600 Multimedia Platform family, the F9600 ES supports applications
such as Intel's ProShare line of Personal Conferencing products and computer-telephony
integration strategies such as Novell's TSAPI and Microsoft's TAPI. In addition to voice
and data applications, high- quality, dial-up videoconferencing is supported.
Fujitsu Business Communication Systems also announced the availability of software
Release 9 for the F9600 Multimedia Platform, Fujitsu's flagship PBX. Release 9 extends the
F9600's multimedia capabilities with enhanced networking features, such as H11, switched
1536-Kbps service, as well as enhanced call center features and expanded capabilities for
the Residential Multi-Tenant Services market. Multimedia enhancements include integrated
services digital network (ISDN) H11 service, nonfacility associated signaling (NFAS) and
D-channel backup. NFAS allows users of both public primary rate interface (PRI) services
and Fujitsu ISDN Private Network (FIPN) spans to share a single D-channel across multiple
PRI facilities. Release 9 CTI features enhance and expand the F9600's automatic call
distribution (ACD) capabilities, including open application interface primitives and
station features. The telecommunications computer services interface (TCSI) primitives
were enhanced to include 10-digit dialed number identification service/direct inward
dialing (DNIS/DID) information, call park and retrieve, enhanced call monitoring and
extension monitoring.
The third product announced by Fujitsu Business Communication Systems is IVS, a
messaging platform for the F9600 Multimedia Platform and Series 3(R) PBXs. The IVS was
developed through the partnership of Fujitsu Business Communication Systems and Centigram
Communica-tions Corporation. The IVS supports 4 to 32 ports and up to 55 hours of
redundant message storage. A migration path to larger Centigram messaging models allows
users to expand the IVS's port and message storage capacity while maintaining the same
user interface. It also allows users to incorporate voice, fax and data messaging in
everyday business communications. By adding TCP/IP Ethernet connectivity to the platform,
users can take advantage of their existing WANs to digitally enhance messages among as
many as 1,500 systems at speeds up to 10 Mbps. The IVS includes CTI capabilities,
featuring a Multi-Vendor Integration Protocol (MVIP) bus for shared resource fax
applications.
