BT Fusion is a seamless fixed/mobile phone service. When you’re out, it’s a mobile phone, but when you return home, it switches automatically to a BT broadband line. Eliminating the use for separate devices, separate numbers and separate services, consumers have the convenience of a mobile phone with fixed-line prices and quality, and no longer need to think about which network they are connected to.
A special access point (box) called the BT Hub is installed in the home. Using Bluetooth technology to connect a BT Fusion handset to the broadband line, it works as a wireless router allowing customers to hook up PCs, game consoles and printers wirelessly anywhere in the home.
When the phone is in range, it switches from the mobile network to the wireless network, then routes calls over the BT Wireless Broadband network. The call hands over to the mobile network automatically when the customer leaves home and doesn’t loose the connection if you’re in the middle of a call.
Support for the full end-user mobile experience delivered over broadband rather than wide area cellular connections enables full mobile service in locations which are out of range of conventional mobile service.
