The modern, sophisticated IVR of today bears about as much resemblance to the first IVRs as the Model T does to today's concept cars. Plum Voice Portal's solution is not impressive just in its feature set, but its potential: it has been able to help health care organizations completely change for the better the way they conduct research, communicate with patients and share information.

MedTalk was designed for use by healthcare providers such as pharmaceutical companies, health insurers and research organizations, and enables the automation of sophisticated communication campaigns with healthcare consumers. MedTalk is powered by the Plum VoiceXML IVR platform and facilitates notification and alerting, as well as the creation of elaborate, dynamic and scientifically valid surveys and studies. MedTalk supports 24x7x365 communication with patients via the one communication media that is almost universal in modern society: the telephone. The telephone enables participation in surveys by members of the population who are functionality illiterate, lack access to the Internet, or lack the ability to make regular physical appearances at doctors' offices or research centers.
MedTalk campaigns may be configured to mix inbound telephony communication with outbound communication via telephone calls or text messages. In-call dialogs may be crafted around either touch-tone or speech-driven interactions. Templates for flexible question formats include the option for multiple choice, true/false, and recorded short answers. The ability to dynamically control question lists during the call, inserting or deleting questions at the last possible instant, enables the creation of question lists that change based on identity or answers to previously asked questions.
