Omnitronix Introduces SNMP-Link Proxy Agent
Hardware manufacturer Omnitronix is providing a new hardware tool for network administrators: the SNMP-Link Network Management Proxy Agent, designed to help implement and extend the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). The SNMP-Link functions as a protocol translator, allowing older, non-SNMP compatible hardware to be monitored by SNMP management stations. The SNMP-Link analyzes the serial data output of legacy equipment, and generates SNMP traps when an undesirable condition is detected. A set of formulas programmed by the user dictates which conditions generate these traps. The SNMP-Link can be installed to either receive a serial data stream or work in-line with an existing VT100-style console without interrupting the data stream.
