FaxFacts is a family of fax software applications including the FaxFacts Fax Server and
FaxFacts Fax-onDemand. FaxFacts Fax Server sets up fax capabilities at each workstation on
a network. Users can have incoming faxes directed to a printer, a mailbox, or an e-mail
address. It resides on a dedicated workstation, operating from a DOS or Windows (3.x or
NT) operating system. Features of FaxFacts Fax Server include Fax From Windows, Fax Mail,
Graphical Cover Sheets, Fax Tracking (Status), and Broadcast.
Fax-on-Demand is an automated fax attendant system that dispenses pre-formatted
documents in response to telephone requests. Callers can reach Fax-on-Demand by regular
telephone or fax phone and then respond to voice prompts by entering alpha or numeric
responses to a telephone keypad. Fax-on-Demand configurations vary depending on the needs
of the buyer. The system can also be programmed to recognize 12 voiced responses in
several different languages. A special creditcard approval option provides the necessary
procedures to verify credit card charges when callers are charged for documents. The
system can also be configured to recognize handwritten characters and bubbles on faxedin
forms. Fax-on-Demand includes Voice Broadcast, a collection of voice scripts designed to
call a number and play a message.

Building on VocalTecs Internet Phone technology, the Telephony Gateway bridges
the gap between the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and the Internet and
intranets to enable longdistance calling from phone-tophone, fax-to-fax, PC-tophone,
phone-to-PC, and Web browser-tophone. The VocalTec Telephony Gateway uses full-duplex
echo-canceling algorithms and a management system which optimizes audio behavior over
different types of networks, and the gateway reconstructs packets which may have been
delayed or lost during transmission. Other features include: Simple Dialing Plan:
The Gateway auto attendant asks the caller for the destination phone number, and the
caller enters the number just as they ordinarily would. The local Gateway automatically
determines which remote Gateway should handle the call.
- Call Progress Detection: An auto detection mechanism prevents disconnects during long
periods of silence, ensuring conversations are not prematurely cut off.
- Interactive Voice Response: IVR serves as the interface between the PSTN/PBX and the
Internet or intranet. Voice prompts make the calling process userfriendly, and the system
can be customized so prompts can be recorded in any language.
- T1/E1 capability.
The VocalTec Telephony Gateway is designed for easy management. An intuitive graphical
user interface (GUI), security functions, and thirdparty billing support are standard. The
GUI allows viewing of group connectivity, and each line can be configured separately as an
internal extension, analog line, or digital trunk line with information for up to 30 voice
and 8 fax lines.

Using Windows-based applications, the Dash system uses several CTI products to improve
phone functionality through a desktop computer. Dash Call or Dash Connect with PC Card
essentially removes the phone from the desk and puts it into the PC. The card provides
easy-to-use call processing buttons, icons, and phone book directories on the screen, and
comes equipped with a headset or handset. Dash Call with PC Option Module lets you use
your computer for 4-line visual call processing with easy-to-use buttons, icons, and phone
book directories and still have a desktop phone. The module lets you place and receive
calls using any single line telephone. A keyboard or headset with a single line phone
built into them can also be used.
Dash Call and Dash Connect are TAPI compatible, and work with off-the-shelf
applications such as ACT! for customer look-ups and screen pops. Dash Attendant provides a
caller database, messaging capabilities, and extension status review. Dash Version 3,
announced in 1997, adds several new features. Among those are the addition of Caller ID
Routing, which allows businesses to target incoming calls to specific extensions based on
the callers number. Up to three pager numbers can now be notified of new voice mail.
Employees can set the number of paging attempts, set the time between paging attempts, and
redirect the voice mail to up to 20 different extensions.

Digital Key Bx, Telrads end-toend digital telephone system combines ISDN
technology for integrated voice and data, with simplicity of user operation. The system
can be configured from 4 outside lines and 16 stations up to a maximum of 384 ports.
Digital Key Bx incorporates features including: integrated auto attendant/voice mail;
local PC networking for data transmission through the systems twist-edpair telephone
wires; versatile edited text messaging; dependable call barring; flexible numbering plan;
uniform call distribution; direct inward dialing; automatic redial; dial by name; and
variable programming of speed dial directories.
Digital Key Bxs digital telephone sets are available in seven different models.
Standard stations provide a feature-rich environment including dual-color LED button
indicators, electronic volume and contrast control, and off-hook voice announce with
hands-free answer back. Telrad merged five technologies (SPC, PCM, TDM, VLSI, and SMD/SMT)
so the Digital Key Bx has high standards of dependability, quality, audio clarity, compact
set size, and low power consumption. The system also allows extension card costs to be
halved, by connecting two digital sets to each S-interface. Digital Key Bx enables data
applications to run on the systems internal network, without any drop in service
quality.

The Brooktrout TR2000 IP Telephony platform is a DSPbased resource board for IP voice
applications, based on the BOSTON (Brooktrout Open System Telephony) architecture.
Designed specifically for IP telephony applications, the boards have the processing
capacity for 24 channels of IP voice based on ITU standard vocoders and up to 36 channels
based on the efficient Lucent SX-7300 vocoder. FaxRelay operation is supported with any
vocoder.
Brooktrout designed the TR2000 with both industry standard TDM data buses the
MVIP bus and the SCbus which gives users the ability to operate with any digital
network interface board that has these interfaces, including boards with worldwide
approvals. An optional T1 line interface daughter board provides a low-cost alternative to
a separate T1 board and saves a system board slot.
To speed development, Brooktrout provides the BTGateway developer kit. The kit includes
the TR2000 IP telephony board with 24 channels of SpeechPac software based on the G.723.1
vocoder, 24 channels of FaxRelay software, a BTStack323 H.323 protocol stack, and the
Netaccesss PRI-ISA24 T1 network interface board.
