Zarak Offers Simulator For Modem Testing
The Abacus bulk call simulator by Zarak Systems Corporation is designed to simplify
testing of equipment connecting to facsimile and modem devices, including those using the
new V.90 specification for 56 Kbps communication. Abacus uses a plug-in SRG containing six
circuits - each designed to simulate a standard asynchronous serial circuit. Traffic is
created by using those circuits to control external modems, enabling engineers to test
modems or the ability of their equipment to handle fax or high-speed modem data. The
modular, expandable test system is designed to create telephone or switching telephone
traffic and can perform the functions of a call generator and call switch simultaneously
in the same system. As a test progresses, Abacus is able to provide numerical and
graphical statistics such as number of calls attempted and completed, errors encountered,
speed of the modem connection, and bit error rate of the calls. Abacus hardware is
controlled from a PC running Windows.
