Compex Intros Layer 3 Switch With Single ASIC Circuitry
Compex has announced a Layer 3 switch that fully integrates the
switching/routing engine into one ASIC, offering high-performance,
reliable routing and switching at a cost-effective price. The
StellarSwitch SGX8216 comes with 16 10/100 Mbps auto-sensing ports, 2
gigabit Ethernet ports, and a modular slot supporting an optional WAN port
for T1/E1 connections. The StellarSwitch SGX8216 separates the repetitious
routing operation execution, handling this in ASIC hardware while handling
routing protocols through software, allowing the switch to implement wire
speed Layer 3 forwarding. The SGX8216 also supports IEEE 802.1p QoS policy
for prioritization of delay-sensitive traffic such as video and audio.
