IP CONVERGENCE
Tearing down the barriers between
Telecom and Information Technology |
The convergence of voice, data and video networks is having a profound effect on telecommunications
organizations, infrastructures, and platforms. Convergence is likewise merging traditional
telecommunications networks and Information Technology infrastructures, historically built on separate
technologies and methodologies. Using common IT technologies, service providers can reduce dependence
upon highly customized hardware to create new service offerings, resulting in an operating environment,
which can significantly reduce CapEX and OpEX, accelerate time-to-market, and provide flexibility to
deploy applications in the environment best suited to the service, and requirements of the service
provider.

BroadSoft and independent analyst firm Crystal Cube Consulting, are accelerating convergence in today's
telecommunications infrastructure. |

Bruce Anthony
IBM Distinguished Engineer and Chief Technical Officer for Next Generation Networks and Convergence,
will discuss how IBM can help you take advantage of this convergence with the IBM BladeCenter family
of systems, delivering a single unified platform architecture that spans the entire end-to-end NGN
infrastructure. By combining the best from the telecom and IT industries, IBM BladeCenter brings a
powerful set of capabilities to the carrier environment, including the ability to flexibly deploy a single
architecture and components across the IT and Network sides of the business, dramatically lowering
operating costs and capital expenditures. The entire IBM BladeCenter family utilizes the same blades,
switches, storage and I/O platforms, while enhanced virtualization technologies enable server, storage
and I/O sharing across multiple systems of blades – making it ideal for the most demanding
telecommunications environments for activities such as new service rollouts and provisioning.
Scott Wharton
Vice President of Marketing for BroadSoft, will discuss how the pre-convergence era is putting pressure
on both the fixed and mobile telecommunications markets. When operators understand the impact of
FMC on the consumer and business sectors, they will clearly see how FMC enables revenue generation
and customer loyalty. BroadSoft's converged applications are one example of capabilities enabled by
the IBM BladeCenter platform.
Ernie Bergstrom
Vice President Research and Founder of CCC, will provide his views on convergence, and how convergence will affect
the necessity and challenge for open systems platforms, such as AdvancedTCA, to provide a platform
that meets both the telecommunications network and IT requirements in the new NGN environment.
