Last9 launches Alert Studio

Last9, a monitoring platform, today announced the launch of, 'Alert Studio', an end-to-end alerting tool built to tackle High Cardinality use cases. Alert Studio comes with advanced capabilities such as, 'Change Intelligence' and 'Anomalous Pattern Detection' to equip Site Reliability Engineers to improve the overall health of complex, distributed software.

An alerting tool helps engineers gauge the performance of complex cloud software. We've witnessed a profound transformation in cloud technology over the last decade. However, existing alerting tools are not built for the complexity and dynamism inherent in today's cloud infrastructures. This results in a barrage of irrelevant, or false alerts, adding stress to engineering teams. In turn, it affects the revenue bottom line of technologically dependent businesses.

Alert Studio is specially designed to reduce alert fatigue, and improve the Meant Time To Detect (MTTD) issues; the time taken to isolate a particular problem in a piece of software. The tool is Fully PromQL compatible and compatible with Prometheus alertmanager. It allows easy migrations from Prometheus-compatible alert rules with a single click.

"Most alerting tools are outdated to tackle the unique problems of High Cardinality data. The monitoring of complex, distributed software has suffered as a result of this legacy tooling. Every time a product witnesses 'downtime', isolating the root cause of an issue is hard for engineers. Alert Studio intends to change this with advanced capabilities by being Operationally Intelligent, and core features such as Anomalous Pattern Detection," said Nishant Modak, CEO and Co-Founder, Last9.

What's not working with legacy Alerting

Alert Studio covers three problems that plague modern monitoring software: Coverage, Fatigue, and Reliability.

Coverage: How many alerts do you set up for a microservice or a k8s? What's deemed necessary to make your system foolproof? How do you ensure the same issues don't repeat themselves?

Fatigue: Incessant alerts that lack relevant context. How do you ensure the same issues don't repeat themselves? Engineers eventually ignore alerts and miss the needle in the haystack.

Reliability: We have witnessed many incorrect configurations and missed evaluations at high loads which lead to important alerts never being delivered when they matter. Legacy alerting systems also don't offer accountability.

What makes Alert Studio different

  • Reliable under high load

Alert Studio leverages Levitate's cardinality optimization workflows to achieve low latencies at high cardinality. This ensures complex, multi-dimensional alert evaluations are not timed out. These evaluation metrics are also readily available to the user guaranteeing that there will be no missed alerts and false negatives.

  • Change Intelligence

Alert Studio forces accountability on disparate teams. It has a 'Changeboard' that gives a correlated timeline of health across all components of a distributed system. It allows the interpretation of alerts and alarms as part of a larger system context and helps triage alerts into urgent vs important.

It also comes with 'Change events' to capture changes such as deployment, configuration change, start and stop special calendar events, and correlate them with alerts.

  • Anomalous Pattern Detection

A good alerting tool should be able to spot repetitions and patterns. Alert Studio can detect spike changes, loss of signal, baseline deviation and show noisy neighbors. Read our documentation to get a proper glimpse of the magic of Anomalous Pattern Detection.

Alert Studio is also available as part of Levitate's 1 month free trial. Level up your alerting game, give your engineers the peace of mind needed to focus on the core product.
