DPI Consortium Launches Curated Prior Art DatabaseThe recently announced DPI Consortium today launched its prior art database consisting of more than 1600 items related to Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology for assuring the health and security of networks and the applications and services that run on them. The freely available prior art database includes links to four decades' worth of product data sheets, articles, patents, and web pages from the Internet Archive. The library of material is available to help companies defend against frivolous patent assertion entity lawsuits by making available prior art that can be referenced in challenging patents that were issued in error or are being asserted improperly. The fully searchable database can be accessed via the DPI Consortium website. The database is hosted on the Zotero platform, which is used by researchers in many different disciplines. "DPI technology has been around for many decades, but it has seen renewed interest in recent years as companies try to solve complex application and cyberseurity challenges," stated Paul Barrett, CTO of Enterprise for NETSCOUT and president of the DPI Consortium. "As a result, we see new patent applications based on old technology and patents of questionable validity being asserted by patent assertion entities. The DPI Consortium aims to improve DPI patent quality by providing a resource for patent examiners worldwide and for organizations defending against PAE activity.
