HealthStream Expands Resuscitation Offerings with Exclusive Distribution of Leading Neonatal Education Program: the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program

HealthStream (Nasdaq: HSTM) announced today that it has entered into a partnership with the Park City, Utah-based S.T.A.B.L.E. Program to offer healthcare providers an updated, online option for completing their internationally recognized neonatal education program. The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program focuses on improving the knowledge and skills of each member of the perinatal healthcare team that provides care to both well and sick infants. Since 2001, more than 600,000 neonatal and obstetric healthcare providers have completed a S.T.A.B.L.E. Program learner course in an instructor-led training session. Through the new partnership with HealthStream, the popular S.T.A.B.L.E. Program will now be available online, exclusively from HealthStream.

Among the approximately four million births in the U.S. each year, thousands of newly born infants become ill and require specialized care. The early transitional care affects not only the immediate health of the infant, but also the infant's long-term outcome. Dr. Kristine Karlsen, creator and director of the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program, said, "The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program was developed to meet the educational needs of healthcare providers who must be ready to deliver critically important stabilization care to infants. To make the program more widely available and easily accessible, partnering with HealthStream to offer an online version was an ideal solution-as their workforce platform has an immediate, broad reach to the nation's healthcare providers, including their neonatal and obstetric care teams."

Based on a mnemonic to optimize learning, retention, and recall of information, S.T.A.B.L.E. stands for the six assessment and care modules in the program: Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood pressure, Lab work, and Emotional support. A seventh module, Quality Improvement, stresses communication and teamwork as well as the professional responsibility of evaluating care provided to sick infants, with the ultimate goal of improving future care. Dr. Karlsen has won numerous awards for the efficacy and clinical impact of the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program fom many of the healthcare industry's most highly respected organizations, including the National Perinatal Association, the National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, the Association of Women's Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), and the March of Dimes, among others. The new online offering of this program closely adheres to the instructor-led version with realistic clinical cases interspersed throughout the modules to further engage the learner.

HealthStream's addition of the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program expands its suite of resuscitation education solutions offered to healthcare organizations, fulfilling an important niche educational need for their respective workforces. Ensuring post-resuscitation / pre-transport stabilization of infants is a critical step in the clinical outcomes of these vulnerable patients. HealthStream aims to offer its thousands of healthcare organization customers a marketplace of resuscitation solutions, which now includes the S.T.A.B.L.E. Program, making it easily accessible via an updated, online version through the Company's workforce platform.

"The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program was designed for every healthcare professional involved with neonatal care-and now that it will be offered online-more of them will have an opportunity to benefit from it," said Robert A. Frist, Jr., Chief Executive Officer, HealthStream. "At HealthStream, we share Dr. Karlsen's passion to provide effective education to help reduce infant morbidity and mortality while improving neonatal outcomes. We are excited to offer this internationally recognized program to the nation's hospitals and healthcare systems in an online, updated version via HealthStream's workforce platform."

The online S.T.A.B.L.E. Program is being launched by HealthStream in March 2020.
