Free Web-Based Support Group for Pregnant Women and Moms with Eating DisordersCHICAGO, July 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- "Lift the Shame" is the first web-based support group of its kind offering support and resources to pregnant women and moms with eating disorders. The support group is a free, confidential online group hosted by Crystal Karges, MS, RDN, IBCLC, RD, in partnership with Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center.
Support groups like "Lift the Shame" serve as a useful adjunct to treatment. Research has shown that support groups can be one of the most valuable experiences in the recovery process. "Motherhood is a special time in a woman's life that presents with unique challenges, stressors, and opportunities for growth," said Karges. "For moms who may be struggling with an eating disorder, different challenges can surface along the many stages of motherhood, including pregnancy and postpartum. I'm excited to partner with Timberline Knolls in creating a safe and nurturing space. Every mom deserves to find hope, encouragement, support, and freedom from shame, no matter where she is on her journey." The support group launches live on Sunday, July 28, from , 6-7 p.m. (Central Time). The group will be held the third Sunday of each month at the same time. Any English speaking mom or pregnant woman with an eating disorder, from anywhere in the world, can join the group from the privacy of her computer, iPad/tablet or smartphone.
