SANS to Share How to Overcome InfoSec Communication Obstacles at Virginia Cyber Security Training Event

BETHESDA, Md., May 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in cyber security training and certifications, today announced the agenda for SANS Crystal City 2019 (#SANSCrystalCity) taking place August 5-10 in Arlington, Virginia. Courses will cover cyber defense, OSINT, ethical hacking, penetration testing, legal and defensible security architecture. Cyber security expert Patterson Cake will give an evening talk, "Overcoming Your Greatest Info-Sec Adversary: You!"

Cake explains, "Wouldn't it be nice if human communication protocols were a little more clearly defined, with a set of rules for properly formatting input to achieve desired output? Unfortunately, your technical knowledge and industry expertise won't equip you to deal with this particularly challenging protocol and may even be a hindrance! Join me in Crystal City to hear about some good, bad and occasionally ugly communication lessons learned, and to discuss strategies for simplifying complex ideas, influencing decision makers, and promoting change, all of which are critical to your success in information security!"

In addition to his talk, Cake will teach SEC560: Network Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking. Cyber security professionals have a unique responsibility to find and understand their organization's vulnerabilities and to workdiligently to mitigate them before the bad guys pounce. SEC560 arms cyber security professional to address this duty head-on. This course prepares students to conduct high-value penetration testing projects step by step and end to end.

SANS Crystal City 2019 features cutting-edge courseware that is continually updated to address current threats. Included among the line-up of courses are SEC401: Security Essentials Bootcamp Style, SEC487: Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) Gathering and Analysis, SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, Exploits, and Incident Handling, and LEG523: Law of Data Security and Investigations.
