Wasatch County, UT Wins OnBase Government Innovation Award

CLEVELAND, Feb. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Wasatch County, UT was selected as Hyland's OnBase Government Innovation Award winner for driving digital transformation with OnBase. Selected among three government finalists for its use of OnBase for digital transformation, Wasatch County transformed its building permit plan review procedure by creating an electronic submission and review processes to help keep up with the growing number of building permit requests.

Prior to implementing its OnBase Plan Review, Wasatch County was barely able to keep up with building permit requests – the county realized rapid residential growth rates of roughly five percent consecutively for the past three years. To stay ahead of growth, the county decided to automate ts plan review processes using its enterprise information platform.

"Prior to OnBase, it took an average of 9.75 weeks to approve permits – a process that required applicants to submit many sets of drawings for each approving agencies, and relied on manual scanning of paper," said Don Wood, information systems director at Wasatch County. "With OnBase, we've decreased the time it takes to approve permits by 5.5 weeks and increased total permit processing by 121 percent – from 316 reviewed permits in 2014 to more than 700 permits in 2017."

Additionally, OnBase has enabled Wasatch County to provide better service to constituents with online access to project submission and information from anywhere, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. "With greater information management and governance over the plan review process, the county has also experienced increased financial stewardship – improving process efficiency to contribute to the financial stability of the county," Woods said.

OnBase has become the core business platform for the county. In addition to plan review, Wasatch County is utilizing the unlimited capabilities within OnBase for records management, agenda and media management and reporting services, to name a few, and plans to continue to expand the platform as needed to bolster its strategic business and technology initiatives.
