Iconic Activist Women Honored at A CALL TO MEN's 2018 Moving Forward in Solidarity Event

A CALL TO MEN honored iconic activist women and men working in solidarity to promote healthy manhood and prevent all forms of violence and discrimination against all women and girls. The 2018 honorees included:

Kimberle' Crenshaw, Professor of Law, Columbia Law School and University of California - Los Angeles
Crenshaw's coining of the term intersectionality was instrumental to better understanding the lived experience of women of color, and all people facing multiple forms of oppression. Crenshaw received the Solidarity Award, which recognizes women activists who have uplifted the experiences of all women. The award was presented by Ana Oliveira, president and CEO of the New York Women's Foundation.

Eve Ensler, Playwright and Activist
Twenty years ago, Ensler's Vagina Monologues shattered taboos and gave birth to V-Day, a global platform elevating the voices of women and girls. Ensler received the Envisionary Award, which pays tribute to women whose vision, leadership and action help create a world where all men and boys are loving and respectful, and all women and girls are valued and safe. The award was presented by Pamela Shifman, executive director of the NoVo Foundation.

Dwight Hollier, Senior Associate Athletic Director, University of North Carolina
Hollier leveraged his role as vice president of wellness and clinical services at the National Football League (NFL) to provide ealthy manhood/anti-violence education to one of the largest and most influential populations of men in the world - the NFL players. Hollier received the Men Leading Men Award, which recognizes men who use their influence and platform to advocate for healthy manhood education. The award was presented by Anna Isaacson, senior vice president of social responsibility for the NFL.

The event included a special video feature by #MeToo Founder Tarana (News - Alert) Burke, emphasizing the importance of engaging men in the movement to end violence against women, and highlighted A CALL TO MEN's worldwide effort to educate men on healthy, respectful manhood, and prevent violence and discrimination against all women and girls. The event was held on November 8 at the Mezzanine in New York City, and was sponsored by the Deloitte (News - Alert), Duane Morris, National Basketball Association, National Football League, National Hockey League and Verizon.
