Rubicon Labs Announces Secure OTA Silicon update for Xilinx Zynq SoCs Providing Secure Resilience from the Cloud to Endpoint for the Automotive and Industrial Sectors

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Rubicon Labs, a leader in providing secure identity and subscription services for the IoT, today announced an end-to-end solution for secure over-the-air (OTA) Silicon update including hardware functionality, machine learning (ML) models, security patches, and other functionality through reconfiguration of Xilinx Zynq® SOC and FPGA technology.

Xilinx and Rubicon Labs Secure OTA silicon update flow

The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) market is forecast to reach $67.4 billion by 2025, according to Grand View Research. The ability to secure the ADAS devices, while also having the opportunity to roll out new features and the ability to update systems with advanced functionality over time are widely seen as keys to market growth. As new features are designed, drivers will require the most up-to-date technology, but drivers and government regulators also will need to know that the security and control of these devices is being addressed.

Rubicon Labs' Rubicon Identity Service (RIS) enables secure control of data from an OEM cloud service down to targeted devices. This provides a secure method to deliver OTA functional enhancements to a particular vehicle's automotive electronic control unit - ECU(s) with targeted new hardware functionality.  Paired with Xilinx's unique configurability and adaptability, this method provides secure resilience to field deployed systems. This secure OTA Silicon update provides the ability to modify systems with new hardware functions, effectively changing the functionality of the silicon, to address security gaps, or to update functionality without having to physically replace ECU parts, which would be a difficult after-market task, thereby effectively extending the life of in-vehicle ECUs.

"Rubicon Labs understands the value of providing secure solutions from endpoints to the Cloud.  We are pleased to continue exploring new use cases with Rubicon for their secure identity cloud service for OTA update of Silicon functionality of our adaptable technolog, including modifying existing functions or adding new features along with update of mission critical functions, e.g. security algorithms," said Willard Tu, Senior Director of Automotive Marketing at Xilinx.

"Working with Xilinx's adaptable technology provides a unique opportunity for Rubicon's SaaS-based service to deliver OTA updates to Xilinx technology for both software and now hardware – updating deployed systems operating in virtually any market. This unique technological feature provides the ability to fully or partially reconfigure areas of the device. We're looking forward to working with Xilinx to explore new opportunities for this combined technology," said Julia Cline, VP Product & Marketing of Rubicon Labs.

Rubicon Labs and Xilinx will demonstrate secure identity OTA Silicon update of functionality with ecosystem Alliance partner System View, using the Zynq UltraScale+TM MPSOC, enabled by the Rubicon Identity Service at the IoT Security Forum, Oct. 12, 2018 at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa, Tokyo, Japan. Additionally, Daniel Isaacs, Xilinx's Director, Automotive Strategy will present securing IoT applications during the keynote session "Enabling Safe and Secure Operation for Automotive and Industrial Applications through Programmable SoC Technology."
