The Partnership Grant Program (PGP (News - Alert)) funds were awarded yesterday to the Financial Literacy Coalition of Central Texas (FLCCT) during a ceremonial check presentation at Horizon Bank in Austin, Texas. FLCCT will use the funds to support the nonprofit's Financial Literacy Summit, taking place in Austin in April 2019. The event will bring together government representatives, bank executives, school administrators and educators, foundations and nonprofit and community leaders to share best practices and successful initiatives that work to eliminate the lack of financial education access in low-income communities.

"Our goal is to increase access to financial education resouces and provide information to which a lot of low-income families don't have access," said Lourdes Zuniga, executive director at FLCCT. "We're trying to build financial stability in the community and we're excited and grateful to receive this grant."

This is the organization's first PGP award.

Horizon Bank Chief Operating Officer Gregg Bennett said FLCCT's mission to support the community and its economic success aligns with that of Horizon Bank.

"We are truly appreciative of the opportunity we have through the PGP and our partnership with FHLB Dallas to help this organization in its efforts to provide valuable financial education," said Mr. Bennett. "It's a much-needed service that supports those in our communities who might not otherwise have access to that kind of information."

PGP is a unique program that enables FHLB Dallas member institutions to contribute from $500 up to $4,000 to a CBO, which FHLB Dallas matches at a 3:1 ratio to provide the CBO up to $12,000 in grant money. In 2018, FHLB Dallas has awarded $300,000 in PGP funds through 31 member institutions to assist 32 community-based organizations. Combined with the $114,010 contributed by FHLB Dallas members, a total of $414,010 has been awarded to the organizations.

"Partnership Grant Program funds not only benefit recipients of the funds, but also our member institutions," said Greg Hettrick, first vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. "It enables our members to work closely with the community to create positive outcomes for those who need it the most."

Without the PGP funds, FLCCT would have struggled to expand its programs, Ms. Zuniga said.

"Now, we can have a presence in more schools," she said. "Our goal is to one day be in every school in the Austin School District, educating not only students, but also their parents. We hope they'll have conversations at home about financial planning to achieve their goals, and that those discussions become part of the fabric of their daily lives."
